What to Expect During Your First Brazilian Wax (From Someone Who Gets It)
If you're reading this, I'm willing to bet you've thought about booking a Brazilian wax more than once.
Maybe you've even had the booking page open... and then closed it because you got nervous.
First of all—you are not alone.
I meet first-time clients all the time, and almost every single one walks through my door saying the same thing:
"I have no idea what I'm doing."
That's exactly why I wrote this guide.
Before Your Appointment
One of the biggest questions I get is:
"How much hair do I need?"
Ideally, your hair should be about the length of a grain of rice, or around 2–3 weeks of growth after shaving.
Please don't stress about trimming everything perfectly before your appointment.
Seriously.
I've seen every stage of hair growth imaginable, and your hair doesn't need to look a certain way before you come in.
The only thing I ask is that you come clean and avoid shaving before your appointment.
When You Arrive
We'll spend a few minutes chatting before we start.
If it's your first Brazilian, I'll explain the process, answer your questions, and make sure you're comfortable before we begin.
If you're nervous, tell me.
I promise you're not the first person to feel that way.
Does It Hurt?
Let's be honest...
It's probably not going to be your favorite feeling in the world.
But it's also probably not as bad as you've imagined.
Most first-time clients tell me the anticipation was worse than the actual appointment.
I work quickly, check in with you throughout the service, and do everything I can to make the experience as comfortable as possible.
Is It Awkward?
This might surprise you...
It's only awkward if we make it awkward.
You're trusting me to do my job, and my job is to make you feel comfortable—not judged.
I promise I'm not thinking about your stretch marks.
I'm not judging your body.
I'm not wondering why your hair looks the way it does.
I'm simply focused on giving you a great wax.
What Happens After?
Some redness is completely normal and usually fades within a few hours.
For the first 24–48 hours, avoid:
Hot tubs
Saunas
Intense workouts
Tight clothing
Anything that creates extra heat or friction
A few days later, start gently exfoliating 2–3 times a week and keep the area moisturized to help prevent ingrown hairs.
The Best Part?
Your first wax is usually the hardest.
As you stay consistent, many clients notice:
Less discomfort
Finer hair growth
Longer-lasting smoothness
Fewer ingrown hairs
Final Thoughts
If you've been putting off your first Brazilian because you're scared, I completely understand.
But I also don't want fear to keep you from trying something that so many women end up loving.
My goal isn't just to give you a great wax.
It's to make you feel comfortable from the moment you walk through the door until the moment you leave.
If you're looking for a Brazilian wax in Salem, Oregon, I'd love to help make your first experience a positive one.
No judgment. No awkwardness. Just smooth skin and good conversation.
