Ingrown Hair Guide
The Bare Body Wax Guide to Ingrown Hairs
Let's be honest—ingrown hairs are annoying.
You finally commit to waxing, you're feeling smooth and confident, and then a little bump shows up and tries to ruin the vibe.
The good news? Most ingrown hairs are preventable.
What is an ingrown hair?
An ingrown hair happens when a hair grows back into the skin instead of growing out normally. This can cause bumps, redness, irritation, and sometimes dark spots.
And no—you didn't do anything wrong. Some people are simply more prone to them than others.
How to help prevent ingrown hairs
Exfoliate regularly
This is one of the best things you can do for your skin.
Start exfoliating about 2-3 days after your wax and continue 2-3 times per week. Exfoliation removes dead skin cells that can trap hairs beneath the surface.
Just remember: gentle and consistent is better than aggressive scrubbing.
Moisturize daily
Hydrated skin helps hairs grow through the skin more easily.
Dry skin and trapped hairs? That's where the problems start.
Don't shave between appointments
I know it's tempting, especially if you see a few hairs popping up.
But shaving disrupts the hair growth cycle and can make ingrown hairs more likely. Staying on a regular waxing schedule usually leads to smoother skin and fewer ingrowns over time.
Avoid tight clothing right after your wax
Freshly waxed skin can be sensitive. Tight clothing creates extra friction and irritation, especially during the first 24 hours.
Loose, breathable clothing is your friend.
What if I already have an ingrown?
Please don't pick at it.
I know it's tempting, but digging at ingrown hairs often causes more irritation, dark spots, and sometimes scarring.
Instead, keep the area clean, exfoliate gently, and give your skin time to heal.
The truth about ingrown hairs
Even people who wax regularly get them sometimes.
It doesn't mean your wax was bad.
It doesn't mean your skin is difficult.
And it definitely doesn't mean waxing isn't for you.
With good aftercare, consistency, and a little patience, most clients notice a huge improvement over time.
And if you ever have questions about your skin after a wax, don't hesitate to ask. That's what I'm here for.
